American swimmer Michael Phelps may have proven that he’s only human after all in the 200m Butterfly event, but Team USA looked like super heroes, as they smashed the field on the way to victory in the Men’s 4×200 Freestyle Relay at the London 2012 Olympics. Read on for all the results.
Ryan Lochte got the U.S. team out to a blazing start with his lead off leg of the 4x200m relay. Lochte handed nearly a two second lead to his team mate and the United States never looked back. By the time Michael Phelps dove into the pool to swim the anchor leg, the gold medal was all but around his neck.
Phelps brought the relay home in style, winning his first gold medal of the London games, his 15th total gold and his record breaking 19th overall medal, making him the most decorated Olympian in Olympic history. Congratulations to Michael on his history making accomplishment and to all the members of the U.S. team for an inspirational performance!
